John C Perry
John is a member of Chartis' Advisory Board with a focus on the role that technology plays in facilitating the governance, management and measurement of risk within the banking industry.
From 1975 until 2013 John pursued his career as an international manager within the HSBC Group working in all of the major financial centres. From London to Hamburg, Muscat, Hong Kong and Riyadh he focussed on operations and IT system development. Between 1986 and 1991 he managed the Group’s Global Markets systems strategy from Hong Kong, followed by several years in Dubai as Financial Controller for the Middle East region. Between 1995 and 2004 the focus of his responsibility was the management of the finance and operations of the Global Markets and Investment Banking business in Milan, Sydney, Curitiba (Brazil), Toronto and New York. Between 2004 and 2008 he managed the rollout of the Basel 2 project for Global Corporate Banking & Markets Division, then spent two years as Executive Director on the board of the Group’s Middle East subsidiary. Returning to London he held senior positions project managing the Group Recovery & Resolution plan, then as Global Head of the Group’s independent model risk review function.
In August 2013, John set up his own consulting company – Productive Human Endeavour Ltd. He is a senior consultant to the British Bankers' Association coordinating banking industry responses to Bank of England, PRA, EBA and Basel Committee consultation and discussion papers.
